Women's Indoor League reports

High Intensity Cricket pays dividends For Thornbury Women in first round of Indoor Matches

Due to the interest TCC have entered 2 evenly balanced teams into Bristol league 1 & Bristol league 2.

TCC Ladies began their Bristol indoor (1) league campaign on Sunday playing Golden Hill & Coalpit Heath.

Having trained for a couple of weeks the ladies felt confident going into the first game.

Skipper Nina lost the toss and Golden Hill put Thorns in on what looked a firm & even pitch at Winterbourne academy.

Emily Bogg & Gaenor began the innings in dramatic style with Emily taking the lead with a couple of straight sixes. A solid foundation was laid after 4 overs with the pair of Eva & Emily Hill taking advantage of hesitation in the field and finding the corners well. Nina & Liz followed for the final 4 overs with a similar intensity to their game but some excellent fielding led to a couple of run outs. Thorns finished on a competitive 92-6.

Top Scorers:

Nina 19 Emily Hill 16 Emily Bogg 16 Eva 14

Following a quick debrief from Coach Harry the ladies took to the field knowing wickets could be crucial. The youthful Golden Hill side played sensibly, slowing ticking off the runs as our ladies courageously ran and dived everywhere to prevent every run. The ladies fought to the end but with Golden Hill finishing on 93-1 they won by 26 runs. A great effort by the ladies and something to work on as TCC lost by 6 wickets to Golden Hill's 1 being the main difference.

Following a quick break, Nina won the toss and she chose to field first against Coalpit Heath.

With nerves settling down and the ladies more relaxed a more competent bowling team effort was produced which restricted Coalpit to 76-5. Nina, Emily Hill & Eva all picked up a wicket apiece, with 2 run outs giving TCC a great chance to pick up their first victory.

With the same batting order, the team went about their business with a positive approach and steely determination from the first ball. With Coalpit struggling to cope with the quick running the runs were easily achieved finishing on 98-3, finishing with a winning margin of 32 runs.

Top Scorers:

Eva 22 Nina 20 Emily H 16 Emily B 14

A celebration ensued minus Prosecco! A great team effort by the entire team of Emily Bogg, Gaenor, Eva, Emily Hill, Liz & skipper Nina. Thoroughly entertaining and proud to be a part of this band of ladies and their exciting brand of cricket!

Thornbury look to pick up second consecutive win

The 3rd game for Bristol Indoor 1 was played vs Frenchay on Sunday 30th January and despite losing the toss the team settled into batting first. It was TK's first match back after injury and despite claiming to be rusty, her pairing with Caroline was the most successful of the day scoring 39 runs between them for the loss of just 1 wicket. The team continued at a steady pace trying to keep wickets to a minimum learning the lesson from the previous week.

Batting pair scores:

TK and Caroline 39 Jo and Hazel 24 Nina and Liz 27

Thornbury produced a tight bowling display with our 10 wides bettering the 18 bowling extras from Frenchay. Nina, Liz, Jo and Hazel all picked up run outs and a wicked ball from Caroline at a critical time caught Frenchay unawares and meant that they lost 7 wickets vs Thornbury's 4. The last over was critical with just 6 runs needed to win and TK held her nerve bowling 4 dot balls.

A win by 6 runs outlined a great team effort!
