Thornbury Cricket Club is sorry to announce the death of Honorary Vice President Roy Vizard. We believe that Roy was the oldest member of our club. He is first mentioned in our records in 1953, was a committee member in 1966, and chairman of the social committee in 1975. On the field of play he was 2 nd X1 vice-captain in 1976 and went on to captain the newly formed 3rd X1 (Vandals) in 1982.
Roy will be remembered as one of a trio with John Sage and Les Gulwell, all larger-than-life
characters who kept us all entertained with their wit and antics for many years. There was never a dull moment when they were around. His final years were spent in the loving care of his daughters Helen and Judith and condolences have been sent to them and William on behalf of the club.
Funeral arrangements:
There will be a service to celebrate Roy’s life in St Helens Church Alveston on Tuesday 5 th July at 12.00 noon followed by a reception at Thornbury Cricket Club. Parking is limited at the club and you may use the Premier Inn (Ship) rear park accessed off the A38. Please do not park in the “pub” end parking accessed off Thornbury Road.
Les Summerfield
Club President
