It’s been a great month, with a return to league cricket for the Men’s teams and a hardball debut for the Women, as well as the continuing of the softball league!
Find out who has been the standout performers from across our adults section!
Men's 1st XI: Dan Lezar
Dan has had strong start to the season at the top of the order, making scores of 42, 29, 101 and 55, getting the team off to strong starts in each of the four matches played. His hundred against Bedminster laid the foundation for Thornbury getting very close to a 300+ run chase, and 42 against Lansdown set a platform for a huge total and victory.
With the ball he has been miserly, bowling 20 overs and having the second best economy rate in the team, at just over 5 an over.
Men's 2nd XI: Andy Weeks
The 2's have had a slow start to the season, however Andy has been a key player in trying to change the side's fortunes. He has the most runs and wickets from the first 4 games, with a counterattacking 50 giving the team a chance away at Aston Ingham, 37 at home to Poulton after a batting wobble, and 3 crucial wickets against Chipping Camden to haul them in after a strong start.
In the field he has been athletic as ever, and hopefully will keep up the good work as the 2s look for some positive results.
Men's 3rd XI: Nikash Choughule
Nikash, at just 13 years old, is the top run scorer in the 3's with 108, and also a couple of wickets to boot. He's been solid at the top of the order, with 48 against Coalpit Heath in a game where no other batter passed 20, and 45 to set up a win against Taverners. the knock against Taverners was followed up with 1-27 from 6 overs as Thorns turned the screw on the opposition chase.
Hopefully this is just the start of brighter things for one of Thornbury's many young talents!
Men's 4th XI: Olly Rigby
Having not played league cricket in years, Olly answered the plea for 4th team players ahead of their first home game against Golden Hill. He made an immediate impact, taking 2-26 with the ball, and then following this up with a crucial 28* in the run chase to see Thornbury to an important victory. Since then he has contributed to two more wins, with 1-6 and 1-29 in the following games as the 4's have gone on a 3 match winning run.
It's always great to see players coming back to cricket after a few years out and enjoying themselves - Olly has been a great example of this!

Women's 1st XI - Anjali Nair
Anjali has started as a strong opening bowler for the women's first ever hardball league fixtures. In her first over against Brislington, Anjali bowled and caught her first wicket, quickly followed up by a second wicket in her second over, with figures of 4-0-23-2. In her second game Anjali remained consistent and took a wicket in her opening over, with figures of 3-0-12-1.
Women's Softball League 2 - Gaenor Harries
Gaenor has been a great addition to the women's team and throughout the first 5 fixtures, Gaenor has played all games, sometimes stepping in at the last minute. Gaenor has bowled, been wicket-keeper and has been a key figure in the field. Gaenor's new to cricket, gives 100% at training and her enthusiasm and encouragement for the team is infectious. Off the field Gaenor has also got involved with volunteering on a Friday night and helping out on the Players reunion Saturday.
